Written by Shane Smith, Editor, Stonewall Gazette

I remember buying so many compilation CD's back in the 1990's like this one from Rhino Records. Billboard Top Hits: 1990 featured 10 mega hits. All of the songs reached the top 5 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Subverting Pop Culture One Song At A Time

Written by Shane Smith, Editor, Stonewall Gazette

December 8, 2017 was a celebratory day for gay Australians - the Marriage Amendment bill received royal assent and went into effect the following day. The fight for LGBT rights has always been an uphill battle so it was great to see so many allies publicly supporting marriage equality in Australia.

Interview: Drake Jensen and Patrick Masse on Life & Career as Openly Gay Country Music Singers

Written by Shane Smith, Editor of Stonewall Gazette

Drake Jensen (L) and Patrick Masse (R)

This past June, during Pride Month, openly gay country music singers Drake Jensen and Patrick Masse released their song "Go Your Own Way" and I was so excited by their collaboration I contacted Towleroad's Michael Goff, HuffPost's Noah Michelson, Axxidental's Mike Enders, Queerty, Bear World Magazine and many other folks in queer media. The importance of two openly gay singers doing a duet was unprecedented in country music and I wanted to help in any way that I could.

'Origami Crane' by Trevor Hall (Music Video)

One of my favorite singer-songwriters is Trevor Hall. He was raised on an island in South Carolina and realized at a young age that music was more than just a passion - it was, rather, his life’s art. At sixteen, he recorded his first album, soon after which he left South Carolina for Idyllwild Arts Academy in California where he studied classical guitar and was introduced to the practices of yoga and meditation, which would greatly influence his life and his music.

Enjoy the video for "Origami Crane" below:

Song of The Day: "What Does It Take To Win Your Love" by Garland Jeffreys

Legendary singer-songwriter Garland Jeffreys covered this classic song on his 1983 album, "Guts For Love". The original, by Jr. Walker & The All Stars, was a huge hit in 1969. Jeffreys' is a faithful version but he adds sorrowfulness to the tune. "Guts For Love" is one of my all time favorite albums. Enjoy the music video below!

Ike Winkler directed gay singer Eli Lieb's recent music video for his song, Shangri La. The music video, like the track itself, is equally intimate and sexy. Eli wrote and produced the tune. I really like it and I hope you do too. Enjoy!

Please share this post on your social media (Facebook, Twitter etc). Thank-you!

Written by Kristin Hall

Two years after coming out publicly as a gay man, country singer Ty Herndon is revealing much more about his lifelong struggle for acceptance in a new album that he hopes everyone can relate to. "House on Fire," features love songs that are gender neutral, a moving title track about feeling shamed inside the church and hopeful anthems for love. "I wanted music that would go out into the world and that anyone from any walk of life could hear their story in my music," Herndon said in a recent interview. "Because I have a lot of die-hard country fans who have been with me a long time and are still right there. And I have a legion of brand new fans, within the young country listeners, within the LGBT community."

NEW MUSIC! "More Than Temporary" by Tom Goss (WATCH VIDEO)

Please share this post on your social media (Facebook, Twitter etc). Thank-you!

I really enjoyed this new music video, "More Than Temporary", by openly gay singer-songwriter, Tom Goss. It's very romantic and has been released just in time for Valentine's Day! Tom says, "If you let it, love will blossom. Look to these LGBT seniors for inspiration, their example will light the way." This song is featured on Tom's excellent 2016 album, “What Doesn’t Break.” Enjoy the video below!

Goss, 35, told The Huffington Post: “I’m grateful to those that have come before me. They have paved the way for the rights and privileges that I take for granted. Hopefully this video can highlight the beauty and inspiration of LGBTQ seniors, and in turn, give an example to those that are hesitant to dive into love.”

Be sure to visit Tom's official site to purchase the single/album.

WATCH VIDEO: Lady Gaga's "John Wayne"

Please share this post on your social media (Facebook, Twitter etc). Thank-you!

Lady Gaga has released her latest music video, John Wayne. The country-tinged rock song is from her terrific album, Joanne. The video, directed by Jonas Ã…kerlund, is what we'd expect from Lady Gaga visually with quick cuts, melodramatic scenes and doses of humor. I like the camp persona of Lady Gaga. Joanne is one of her best albums but the track John Wayne wasn't one of my favorites. With that said, this video really makes the song kick-ass. I enjoyed the music video very much. What do you think? Watch the video below.

Openly gay singer-songwriter Eli Lieb has been busy working on new music and today he released a new track called, Castles. Eli shares how the song came about, "Lately I have been very inspired to write songs that will help people feel empowered. Right now there are so many of us that feel broken down and lost and I hope this song helps people feel like they can build their strength up again, never lose hope, take the hard times and use them as a tool to build your own Castle!" Lady Gaga, Woody Guthrie, Politics and Super Bowl LI - WATCH: Halftime Show (FULL VIDEO)

Please share this post on your social media (Facebook, Twitter etc). Thank-you!

Lady Gaga performed a great Super Bowl LI Halftime show; I'd say one of the best Super Bowl performances of all time. She opened her set with the patriotic anthem God Bless America and then slyly segued to Woody Guthrie's classic folk song, This Land Is Your Land, which has an interesting political history (watch the video of Lady Gaga's Halftime spectacle below).

Please share this post on your social media (Facebook, Twitter etc). Thank-you!

Openly gay singer, Steve Grand took to his social media tonight to share this sexy pic (above) with his fans. Steve says, "Glad so many of you are enjoying your 2017 calendars! Here's one of the shots from it. What's your favorite?" Personally, I like them ALL.

Quote of The Day - by - Dan Gillespie Sells

“The world would be a healthier place if people were more honest about their sexuality and the entertainment industry would be healthier if people were more honest full stop. The more of us who come out, the easier it is for others. My advice for anyone considering coming out would be to do it for themselves. It’s not fun living a lie.” - Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer and guitarist for the British pop rock group, The Feeling.

The Story Behind the Secret & Groundbreaking Gay Album from 1962

Written by Jim Farber

More than 50 years ago, an album appeared that let the love that dare not speak its name sing out loud. The man who voiced the male-to-male love songs contained on the album wasn’t identified on the cover. Neither were the musicians who played on it, the man who produced the music, nor the two male figures who lurked in the dark shadows that enveloped the cover. The disc, titled Love Is a Drag in 1962, featured a sincere crooner interpreting American standards previously recorded only by women, like My Man, The Man I Love and Mad About The Boy.
