The 6-part web series, "My Fucking Life" was created by Health Initiative for Men. It's a fascinating and revealing look at how young gay men are thinking about sex. For easy bookmarking I've put together a single post with a link to each episode. This includes a synopsis and the trailer for the series. Viewing time for each episode is approximately 7 minutes.
HiM is a Vancouver, BC based organization, "...dedicated to strengthening the health and well-being of gay men." HiM declares that their purpose is to, "...involve and engage gay men to improve foundations of their physical, sexual, social and mental health through research-based, community-minded, volunteer-driven activities. Our materials and programs are for adults and deal with gay sexuality positively and explicitly."
Ep.1 - A Movie Romance
Synopsis: Four young gay guys use online ads to explore the complexities of monogamy, open relationships, group sex and bathhouse culture, while the HiM team talk to six protagonists who share the most personal aspects of their lives.
Ep.2 - Four or More
Synopsis: Here the guys discuss group sex and sex parties. It quickly becomes clear that they have little experience with either, so the HiM team introduces us to Eduardo. He's been a host and attended dozens of sex events and he shares some practical tips he thinks will help to get the guys in the mood.
Ep.3 - Sex in a Box
Synopsis: Sexual risk is discussed in the episode and Brendan gets a "lesson in bathhouse culture." Plus, Richard gives the HiM team a detailed tour of the bathhouse while describing his policy on HIV disclosure and condomless sex.
Ep.4 - Three's Company
Synopsis: The guys discuss threesomes and polyamorous relationships. The guys explore their own comfort level with a ‘third’, and the HiM team chat with Michael, Tyler and Blair about three-way love.
Ep.5 - Double Taboo
Synopsis: Substance use is the primary subject for this episode, while the HiM team talk to Raj about his time in the PnP scene (Party 'n' play), addiction and recovery. This is a short but rare glimpse into a subculture that values discretion because of the stigma associated with this double taboo.
Ep.6 - A Numbers Game
Synopsis: Things get real in the series finale when condoms, harm reduction and sexual safety are described for the HiM team. Our protagonists share their experiences navigating sex with a partner whose HIV status is different, building trust and contracting STIs.
