The Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua scored a world-wide smash hit when "Barbie Girl" was released in May 1997. A decade later, Rolling Stone magazine listed it as one of the 20 Most Annoying Songs! Ha! Where's their sense of kitsch? Stephen Thomas Erlewine from AllMusic, however, commented "Barbie Girl" was "one of those inexplicable pop culture phenomena" and "insanely catchy." I agree. Sometimes a person just wants to bop to a silly dance-pop song!
