Is there a crisis in gay journalism?

"It could be argued that one reason the gay media has declined is that it’s not as necessary as it once was. With famous gay people like Ellen DeGeneres having their own hit shows and a mainstream press more willing to hire gays and cover gay issues, it could be said that gay media has simply evolved into a different mode. Gays are certainly well represented online as well, with many social networking sites and a number of well established gay blogging sites," writes Tim Vollmer. "Sadly, the infrastructure of the gay media, on both the local and national level, is not nearly as strong as it once was. Like the mainstream media, gay media has suffered tremendously in the last decade as advertising and readership have migrated to the Internet.
