Actress Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) released a statement to SheWired.com, expressing her disappointment in the New York Senate rejecting the marriage equality bill:

"The fight for justice is always long and hard, and while this vote was of course extremely disappointing, we now know with certainty who our friends are and who our enemies are. And, trust me, we won't forget it at election time. It's really a terrible shame that many of our legislators could not bring themselves to support a simple matter of fairness and equality, and have betrayed the majority of New Yorkers who believe same-sex marriage should be legalized."

Cynthia Nixon and her partner, Christine Marinoni, have been together for six years. This spring Nixon announced her engagement to Marinoni at the Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally in New York City.

Nixon spoke about getting married in New York last year in an interview with Access Hollywood:

“I think we would definitely [get married] if it became legal in New York... I don’t really want to get married to get married pretend. I think we’d like to do it in a real, actual, legal way that the state would recognize.”
