Academy Award winner Kate Winslet sits down with Attitude's Will Stroude to discuss her role as 19th-century fossil-hunter Mary Anning in Francis Lee's powerful romantic drama Ammonite, outlining her hope that the film will help normalize same-sex relationships in mainstream and period cinema and in turn increase the number of queer roles on offer for LGBTQ actors in the industry.
Kate also reveals how filming love scenes with co-star Saoirse Ronan made her question whether she's truly "stood [her] ground" when shooting similar scenes with male actors during her 25 years in Hollywood, and explains how the industry is changing in its treatment of women on set. "I hope that we are able to normalize same-sex connection on film without hesitation, secrecy or fear."
