Writer David Goodman recently spoke with photographer, inkedKenny. In the interview excerpted below, the two men discuss inkedKenny's approach to his art, as well as the one person he wishes he could photograph.
David Goodman writes:
I first met Kenny, who’s known as inkedKenny, that’s lower case I and capital K, at the very first IBC event in Palm Springs, we were rushing around trying to find each other and my phone died! We did in the end run into each other and had a blast. He had already provided us with some great images, our amazing union suit front cover, and more union suit images for a great photo-spread inside our Holiday edition for 2013. He likes to work on his feet, he doesn’t take hours and hours of planning, he picks a location, finds the perfect models, and gets them to work within minutes of their arrival – the shots he produces are amazing, sexy, rugged, masculine and for us always capturing the bear aesthetic.
David Goodman: Where are you from, where did you grow up?
inkedKenny: I’m from Vancouver , Canada. But I’ve called Toronto, Montreal, NYC, and LA home. Chicago is a second home as of late
DG: When did you first pick up a camera?
iK: In grade 8 for a photo class and I hated it. Grade 8 is about 13 yearsw old. It wasn’t until 2008 that I picked up a camera a second time.
DG: What led you to develop your personal inkedKenny style?
iK: I just kind of came out of personal taste in men that I like. And shooting personal friends in the beginning that were in the kink and bear community; it evolved organically from there and continues to evolve.
DG: Who living or dead do you wish you could photograph.
iK: Colin Farrell. one day his publicist will see my work and get in touch! Why him? He exudes natural sexuality without trying – he just is.
