"Large rallies are being planned to counter a scheduled series of protests by the Westboro Baptist Church later this month at sites around the Denver metro area, including Boulder High School and the University of Colorado..Westboro Baptist Church gained notoreity for protesting at the funerals of U.S. service members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The church's members say the soldiers' deaths are punishment for the country's tolerant attitude toward homosexuality," reports Erica Meltzer. "A Metropolitan State College student has started a Facebook group to organize participants for counter-rallies at the planned appearances of Westboro church members in the Boulder and Denver areas. According to a schedule they released, the church members plan to protest in front of Boulder High School, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, the University of Colorado and Chautauqua Community House on April 22, then to protest at a variety of locations, most of them affiliated with Denver's Jewish community, on April 23 and 24.
