'I am still gay': Lt. Dan Choi speaking at Texas A&M University
Lt. Dan Choi presented at Texas A&M University to students, faculty, staff and the public on the topic of Truth or Consequences of Don't Ask, Don't Tell and sponsored by the the GLBT student resource center at Texas A&M. Choi opened his speech with the standard aggie greeting of "Howdy," instinctively followed by a "Howdy" response from any aggie within earshot. He explained he'd been told to start off by doing three things when he came to Texas A&M, "Say hi in the form of 'howdy,' say something about how big Texas is (followed with an instinctive aggie "whoop") and say beat UT-Austin (followed by another more boisterous "whoop" from the crowd)." Gay professor's death still shrouded in suspicion even as charges laid:
On Thursday, I reported the disturbing death of gay professor, Srinivas Ramchandra Siras. His suspicious death is a major news story in the LGBT community of India. Professor Siras was harassed for being gay. Incredulously, in a sting operation he was filmed having consensual sex with another man and subsequently was suspended from the university in February for "gross misconduct". He fought that suspension and won. Was Professor Siras's death a suicide or was foul play involved? READ MORE

Author Philip Pullman discusses his controversial book, Good Man Jesus & The Scoundrel Christ:
Last year I wrote a short book about Jesus Christ. I know that people are surprised to find a hardened atheist writing about such a subject. Some of my correspondents are sure that my intention is evil, and that I will meet my judgment before the Great White Throne (Rev. 20.11, they add helpfully). Be that as it may, and I think it won’t, I know from my experience with previous books that many readers do have an honest curiosity about the author’s point of view. So they sometimes ask me: ‘What do you really believe? What does your book mean? How should we understand it?’ READ MORE
Gay-themed film challenges boundaries in Malaysia:
Malaysia's first gay-themed movie could hit cinemas within months, its producer said, after government censors eased restrictions that have stifled the film industry here for decades. Although the Malay-language movie won't have explicit sex or even kissing, its screening would be a huge step forward for freedom of popular media in this Muslim-majority country that many fear is coming under the influence of Islamic conservatism. "Dalam Botol," or "In A Bottle," centers on a man whose relationship with his male partner crumbles after he undergoes sex change surgery, said Raja Azmi Raja Sulaiman, who produced the film and wrote the screenplay based on the experiences of her friend. "We are taking a risk," Raja Azmi, a longtime movie producer, said in an interview this week. "I'm very nervous. We still don't know if the censors will allow our movie to be shown in the end."
Lance Bass, others sponsor gay-friendly prom in Mississippi after teen couldn't take same-sex date:
Green Day, former 'N Sync member Lance Bass and celebrity chef Cat Cora are among those helping to pay for a gay-friendly prom in Mississippi next month. Organizers say the event is open to everyone but geared toward gay students. The American Humanist Association also will contribute $20,000 for the May 8 event in Tupelo. The annual prom is organized by the Mississippi Safe Schools Coalition. This year's event has drawn attention because of the case of Constance McMillen, a high school senior who challenged her school district's rule banning same-sex dates at proms.

New human ancestor? Scientists ponder DNA from Siberia:
In the latest use of DNA to investigate the story of humankind, scientists have decoded genetic material from an unidentified human ancestor that lived in Siberia and concluded it might be a new member of the human family tree. The DNA doesn't match modern humans or Neanderthals, two species that lived in that area around the same time — 30,000 to 50,000 years ago. Instead, it suggests the Siberian species lineage split off from the branch leading to moderns and Neanderthals a million years ago, the researchers calculated. And they said that doesn't seem to match the history of human ancestors previously known from fossils. So the Siberian species may be brand new, although the scientists cautioned that they're not ready to make that claim yet. Other experts agreed that while the Siberian species may be new, the case is far from proven.
