Archbishop wields charity services as weapon in gay marriage fight

The Catholic Church, which is expending vast firepower toward driving any funding for abortion out of health care reform, still has reserve ammunition to confront the gay rights/gay marriage movement. Current front: The nation's capital.

USA Today reports:
The Washington, D.C., city council is two weeks and one vote away from legalizing gay marriage. The Washington Post has been following this closely, looking at usually-reserved Archbishop Donald Wuerl's aggressive opposition to this.

Unless the city provides exemptions for Catholic institutions such as Catholic Charities, it will no longer bid on city contracts although currently 68,000 people in the District rely on Catholic Charities for shelter, nutrition, medical and legal care, job training, immigration assistance and more, Wuerl wrote.
